Invitation to submit abstracts for presentation at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the NASGBI in Belfast 10th and 11th May 2012
You are invited to submit your abstracts to the society for consideration for presentation at the ASM in Belfast in May 2012. The closing date is Monday 6th February 2012 at 18:00. The best eight will be invited for oral presentation in competition for the Harvey Granat Prize, and the rest which are of sufficient standard and scientific/clinical merit will be invited as poster presentations. The Harvey Granat prize for the best oral presentation is worth £250, with a second prize of £150. The best poster wins a prize of £100. The majority of accepted abstracts will be published in the Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology.
Only electronic submissions will be accepted via the following email address abstracts2012@nasgbi.org.uk. They must be on the official submission form. The format must follow the template and the instructions in the attached abstract submission guidance; failure to do so will at best mean a request to resubmit in the correct format, or at worst rejection, if the deadline is too close for timely resubmission.
The Harvey Granat Prize
This prize is presented annually at the bequest of Mrs Beryl Granat, Dr Arnold Harvey Granat’s widow. Dr Granat (Harvey to friends and colleagues) was a consultant anaesthetist at the Glasgow Institute of Neurological Sciences, where he not only pioneered neuroanaesthetic techniques, including the use of hypothermia and hypotension in neurosurgery, but he was also a founder member of the Neuroanaesthetists’ Travelling Club, the forerunner to the NASGBI. He studied medicine in Glasgow and qualified in 1938, after which he saw war service with the RAMC in the Indian subcontinent and Burma. On his return he was an anaesthetic registrar in Killearn hospital, before being appointed in 1952 as one of the first Consultant Neuroanaesthetists at the regional neurosurgical unit in Glasgow.
Dr Arnold Harvey Granat 1915 to 1989.
We look forward to welcoming you at the 2012 ASM in Belfast on behalf of the NASGBI council and the Local Organising Committee.
